What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced “Ray-Key”) is a Japanese word that means “Universal Life Force” or “Chi”. This is the energy that flows through everything and causes us to be alive. “Rei” means spirit, soul, or higher power. “Ki” means energy or life force. Therefore Reiki together means spiritually guided energy of the body, soul, and spirit appropriate for healing. This healing technique is used for stress reduction, pain relief, depression, relaxation, and so, but also promotes overall healing. Reiki is unconditional love in its purest form!
It was re-discovered in the modern world by Dr. Mikao Usui in the mid 1800’s. Reiki does not conflict with any faith, nationality, creed, or religion. There are Catholic priests and nuns that practice Reiki, as well as Jews, Protestants, Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists.
Reiki is powerful yet gentle, and is a complimentary to all other methods of healing. It will open you up and improve health, both physical and emotional, by unblocking your energy centers. If, however, our life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel sick. If our life force energy is high, then we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Anyone over the age of 14 can become a Reiki channel by being “attuned”, just think of it as “turning the lights on” by a Reiki Master. Reiki Attunements open a person up to the healing energy and once the channel is open that person will have access to the Reiki for the rest of their lives. Children and animals love receiving Reiki treatments!

What does the client experience during a Reiki treatment?
Treatments are held on a Reiki table, the client is fully clothed, and soft music may be playing. It is helpful if the client removes all jewelry before the treatment begins. It is also recommended for the client to wear comfortable clothing.
As the healing practitioner, the life force energy will flow through my hands as I use a systematic hand placement on or just above the client's major energy centers (also called chakras). Reiki energy is intelligent, because it knows automatically were to go and what needs to be healed.
Everyone feels the Reiki energy in different ways. Some may feel my hands as being hot or cold, or they may feel a tingling sensation. Sometimes, it is a combination of all three, or some may feel nothing except pure simple relaxation.
